Neutral Zone Dentures...
Unfortunately there are millions of patients today who had all of
their teeth extracted at a very early age. When our teeth are extracted
the bone that supported the roots slowly dissolves away causing the
bony ridge and gums to shrink. Eventually the patient will have difficulty
wearing their denture, especially their lower denture. At this point
the best solution for the patient is dental implants to anchor the
dentures.
However, implants are not an option for some patients. The next best solution is Neutral Zone Dentures.
This type of denture in many ways resembles a conventional set of
dentures. The differences include the way the acrylic bases are molded
to fit the natural contours created by the muscles and ligaments of
the oral cavity, the teeth are positioned in the neutral zone between
the cheek muscles and the tongue, the type and angle of the teeth and
a metal bar hidden in the lower denture acrylic giving it a little
weight which offers increased stability.
