Anti Anxiety...

Over 145,000,000 people delay or avoid dental care all together due to fear and anxiety of receiving dental care. Patient's dental and oral health deteriorates day after day. They usually only visit the dentist when they are in so much pain they can no longer stand it and therefore never have a pleasant visit thus adding to their fear and apprehension. When they do muster up the courage to visit the dentist their anxiety often makes them difficult to manage and the dentist becomes frustrated embarrassing the patient even more.

Most Patients between the ages of eighteen and sixty-five can very safely take anti-anxiety medication. Please call our office to arrange a free consultation. We can access your overall health and tell if you are a candidate. Just imagine taking a pill to relax and having a beautiful smile completely avoiding the fear and anxiety you once faced.

Here is how oral anti-anxiety works.

Once you have been accessed and are determined to be a candidate a comprehensive evaluation is performed. Your dental care needs are addressed and a treatment plan that you are comfortable with is developed. Your appointment is scheduled.

The day before your appointment you come in for a short consultation. The treatment plan is reviewed and any questions or concerns you may have are addressed. Pre-treatment and post-treatment instructions are reviewed. You will be given a prescription for one anti-anxiety pill to take one hour prior to you appointment.

The following morning you take your pre-medication and have someone drive you to your appointment. Once you arrive at the office you will be greeted by one of our assistants and escorted to the restroom. Then you will be escorted to your treatment room.

Once you are seated we will place a blood pressure monitor on your right arm and a pulse oximeter on your left index finger. This allows us to monitor your blood pressure, pulse rate, mean arterial pressure, and oxygen saturation level. We will then access you level of relaxation by asking you a few simple questions and observing your response as well as your facial expressions and body language.

We will then place our oxygen / nitrous oxide mask over your nose and place you on 100% oxygen for three to five minutes. Then we will begin to administer nitrous oxide with the oxygen.

During the entire process your vital signs will be continuously monitored, however, this is one of the safest methods of relaxation used. The chance of any complication occurring is so unlikely it barely exists.

After your treatment is complete we will give you something to drink. Your driver is welcome to wait for you at the office or they can leave a number where they can be located. We will be happy to call them as we approach the end of your treatment so they may come back to pick you up.

Once you arrive home you will need to take it easy. You need to drink as much liquids and eat as much food as possible. This will flush the medication from your body and eliminate the chance for any lingering effects the next day. As usual I will be following up with phone calls.

If fear has caused you to neglect your oral health and anit-anxiety dentistry sounds like the answer you have been looking for please contact our office. As previously mentioned we will be happy to provide a free consultation.
